Dov Katz/Dubi Katz is a robotics expert who is currently residing in California but is born in Israel. He is a multilingual person; knows how to speak French, Hebrew, and English. He wanted to be a robotic expert in his country but unfortunately, there are not enough opportunities for fresh graduates. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in computer science and electrical engineering in Tel-Aviv University in 2004, he decided to pursue his robotics study in the USA.
He completed his graduate and a post-doctorate degree in the United States, Ph.D. at UMass Amherst and postdoc fellowship at Carnegie Mellon University. He focused on perception and learning for autonomous manipulation, especially on the interaction between computer vision, machine learning, and manipulation. He became an Oculus Rift engineer. He was the one responsible for the creation of position tracking for Oculus’ Virtual Reality headset.
Katz goal is to let machines intelligently interpret visual information in the day to day life. Eventually, this will pave a way to a lot of great things such as space exploration, home robotics, autonomous driving, flexible manufacturing, search and rescue robotics, and video understanding.
